There’s just something about a big pile of laundry that makes it a Dachshund magnet…

Usually Bessie likes the clean clothes when they’ve just come out of the dryer. Probably because they’re all warm and toasty. But this particular pile was a bunch of sheets and towels that Adriane was getting ready to put in the washer. Who knows what goes on in the mind of this Little Girl? I guess she just saw a fluffy pile of lounging goodness and made her move :)

Well, eventually Adriane had to ask the Littlest One to move so she could finish the laundry, and Bessie reluctantly complied.

Luckily for her there are plenty of other comfy places in the house for her to catch a wee Doxi-snooze… :)

By Bess Kraemer – Age 6

I really don’t know what’s gotten into Poppa lately. We had our routine. He comes home from work, he changes his clothes, and we sit together on the couch until bedtime. But now all of a sudden, we’re sitting outside!

I’m not really one who likes the outdoors all that much. Unless there’s a neighbor that needs to be barked at, or a small child that needs to get his/her comeuppance, I generally prefer to be air conditioned during this time of year. But I love my Poppa, so here we are.

As it turns out, he and Momma have become bird watching enthusiasts. Poppa even has a new blog called Backyard Birds (or something like that… check it out for yourself when you get a chance…)

Birds, huh? That must be what all of those fellas are who sing, fly, eat and poop all day out in the yard. I don’t see the big fascination, but I might as well help Poppa spot a few. Hey, isn’t that a Blue Speckled Humming Jay Wren?

HA! Made you look! That’s what Poppa gets for looking at anything else besides his beloved Dachshund!

Well, at the end of the day, I’m the only Little Girl he really loves. I guess he deserves a smooch after all.

Now, let’s get back inside so Poppa can give me a nice long brushing before bed! Goodnight, gentle readers. Until next time… :)

Now, it’s certainly not the Little Girl’s fault, so Poppa had to reassure her that all was well by giving her a big smooch!

After the scrubbin’ was done, that Littlest One needed a vigorous drying with a warm towel (she’s not too spoiled!)

Hey, Poppa! Be careful back there!!!

Now, to wrap it all up with a good brushing to bring out her silky smooth coat, and the mud is banished for good. (Well, at least until the next time she goes outside!)

I have been sick quite a bit this year with various flus, upper respiratory infections, etc. The only good thing about all of that was that I got to spend lots of time reading with the Little Girl on my lap in our favorite chair. When I went back to work, she wondered where her chair buddy went, and when he would return. One morning, as Bessie was pondering these things, Adriane got this shot of her pining for her Poppa…

She is some good and faithful little critter! Not to worry Bessie, your Poppa will be home soon. But in the meantime, keep a sharp eye out for any joggers, bicyclists, or stroller babies that might pass by the window. If you see any, be sure to give them a long and loud Doxie greeting! :)

It all started out innocently enough with Bessie enjoying her bone up on the ottoman…

…but as usual, her exuberant play launched it onto the ground. Oh no! What’s a Good Girl to do???

A quick look over toward the couch to see if Poppa will help. Drat! He’s not there. The one time when he could have been of some use, too!

Seeing no other options, Bessie took the only recourse available to her. One death-defying leap to the ground from high atop Mt. Footstool, and all was well with the world again!

By Bess Kraemer – Age 6

Oh boy! I sure am tired! I just got back from visiting my Uncle Johnny and I am ready for a long doxie-snooze. Let me just tuck myself in and get comfortable and I’ll tell you all about it…

Ahhhh, that’s better. Now, where to begin? Well, it turns out that Momma and Poppa were having visitors today. A couple of missionaries from Ecuador were coming over for dinner and then some of the Churchies were joining them for dessert. Since I’m always on guard duty (that’s my job, y’know!), my folks thought it better if I had a visit with Uncle Johnny. So I wiggled into my little red harness and off we went. He only lives about six miles away, but with my tiny Dachshund legs it would take forever to walk there, so Poppa drove (I sat on his lap the whole time!).

Needless to say, Uncle Johnny was thrilled to see me (although he didn’t let on until Poppa had left). We had a really great time together. He offered me a bowl of cold water, but I was too excited by my new surroundings to stop for a drink. I had never been to his condo before, so I decided to check things out a little. I headed upstairs and was sniffing around for a bit while Uncle Johnny ordered a pizza for dinner. Since Momma had fed me before I got there, I wasn’t very hungry (I know, I know… Bess Kraemer not hungry? Well, it must have been the excitement or something…).

After dinner we went out for a walk. Even with a bum knee, Uncle Johnny was eager to show me around the neighborhood. When we got back he kept checking the temperature of my water bowl and refilling it with cool H2O as necessary. What a gracious host! I guess the polite thing for me to do would have been to at least take one sip… :)

Well, before I knew it Momma and Poppa had arrived and were ready to take me home. They thanked Uncle Johnny for taking such good care of me. Poppa even went over to the water dish and said how nice it was that he had provided it for me. So as my way of saying thanks too, I went right over next to Poppa and took a big drink. I didn’t understand the words that came out of Uncle Johnny’s mouth after that. Poppa told me later that he was saying “You’re welcome” but it didn’t sound like that to me…

So now I’m back home in my own bed and ready for some… *YAAAAAWWWWWWN* sweet doxie-dreams about my visit to Uncle Johnny’sssszzzzzzzzzzz…zzzz…zzzzzzz….
